The Mexican Attorney General's Office says a tunnel has been found stretching from Tijuana to near the Otay Mesa port of entry in San Diego.
They say the tunnel was equipped with lighting, ventilation and an electronic sliding mechanism in the floor to rapid transport of product.
The discovery came after a search warrant on a home in Tijuana was served. Mexican officials say the home may have been used as a hub for storage, logistics and trafficking of weapons and illicit substances.
Mexican officials say the tunnel was found near the location where a “highly sophisticated” passageway was discovered last year.
