SDPD Officer Sues For Harassment

A 13 year veteran of the San Diego Police Department is filing a lawsuit against the department for sexual harassment, retaliation and discrimination.

Stephanie Crockrell claims the harassment began four years ago when she she reported that her now ex-husband, a fellow officer at SDPD, was having an affair with a deputy officer, also at the department.

Cockrell’s report sparked an internal investigation, but “the investigation was inadequate, incomplete and rushed," the complaint claims.

In the Sept. 15 complaint, it reads that Cockrell “constantly received outstanding performance reviews,” but, despite that, she was “subjected to repeated and ongoing sexual harassment, discrimination, retaliation and a failure by the department to provide protection from such misconduct.”

Reporting partner KGTV reports Crockrell was facing termination after an internal affairs investigation into stalking her ex husband, theft and untruthfulness.

Crockrell says she's also been humiliated by rumors that she traded sexual favors with Chief Scott Wahl to avoid getting fired. The officer's attorney says the upcoming lawsuit exposes what she calls a culture of sexism and retaliation within the department.
