Beach Bummer: Sewage Means No Swimming

A beach-closure order issued by county health officials over the weekend for the waters off the U.S.-Mexico border all the way north to Coronado Shores has been extended.

The Tijuana river is pushing sewage across the border into San Diego. County health officials say beaches from the Tijuana Slough to Imperial Beach and Silver strand will remain closed until testing confirms it is safe.

There are also advisories from Mission Bay to San Elijo.

With the temperatures expected to near 80 degrees, the news is unwelcome especially in Imperial Beach, where a closure has remained in effect since Aug. 2.
