A parent was arrested on Monday (December 16) after attacking and strangling a student in the hallway of Fike High School in Wilson, North Carolina. The incident occurred when Quinton Earl Lofton, 43, entered the school without reporting to the office as instructed. He then assaulted a student over a situation that reportedly happened outside of school.
Fike High School Principal Ross Renfrow stated that he and other staff members quickly responded, diffusing the situation and escorting Lofton out of the building. Lofton was charged with felony assault by strangulation and disorderly conduct, as confirmed by the Wilson County Sheriff’s Office. He was placed in the Wilson County Detention Center under a $7,500 secured bond but was released shortly after.
A video of the altercation was shared on social media, showing Lofton with his hands around the student's neck, pushing him onto a staircase. A female student is heard yelling for him to stop, and Principal Renfrow intervenes, positioning himself between Lofton and the student.
Lofton faces additional charges in Wilson County, including multiple counts of felony child abuse and sexual offenses dating back to 2020. The school has stated that Lofton will not be allowed on campus in the future, emphasizing the priority of student and staff safety.
