Brushfire in Fallbrook Area Prompts Evacuations

A fire that broke out Friday afternoon in the Fallbrook area is threatening homes and has prompted evacuations.

The fire, dubbed the Garden Fire is burning west of Interstate 15. According to officials with the North County Fire Protection District, the fire started shortly after 1pm and within 30 minutes spread to an estimated 15 acres and has a moderate to dangerous rate of spread.

The fire's evacuation zone includes the neighborhoods north of State Route 76 and south of Pala Mesa Drive and also neighborhoods in the Gird Rod and Knottwood Way area.

A site has been set up at the Riverview Church located at 4980 Sweetgrass Lane for those people who have been ordered to evacuate.
